Definition Induction and Orientation
Induction and orientation are the planned introduction of the employees to his job,
workers, and the organization.
Induction is the process of receiving and welcoming an employee when he first joins a
company, and giving him the basic information he needs to settle down quickly and
happily and start work.
Objectives of Induction

Building the self confidence of the employee


Developing loyalty and commitment
Developing positive attitudes about the job and the organization
Making the employee familiar with the organization, people and the job.
Obtaining an efficient service from the employee within the shortest time
possible.

Types of induction
1.
General induction:
It refers to introducing the new employee to the organizational setting.
2.

Special induction
It refers to introducing the new employee to the job and job
environment. This involves four types.

Organizational induction
The new employee is oriented to vision, mission, goals, strategies,
organizational set up, and history and current status of the
organization.

Department induction
The new employee is oriented to the particular department where he or
she will have to perform. The new employee is given information with
regard to the departmental objectives, functions, structure etc.

Job induction
The new employee is oriented to the job he or she is supposed to
perform. He or she should learn the duties, responsibilities, working
conditions etc.

Human induction
The new employee is introduced to all the personnel with whom he or
she will have to interact frequently.
