universal studios 'and ‘summit entertainment’
• Genre- crime, genre, drama and romance. The opening 2 minutes
signifies crime and drama. For example the police sirens signify
crime, drama is signified throughout the fast pace cuts and editing.

• Made $21 million in its opening weekend, exceeding the film's


budget of $12 million. Worldwide, the movie grossed $114,191,952.
Mise-en scene
• The mise-en scene connotes, a dance studio, for example the dance
equipment (ballet bars ) and the traditional ballet costumes suggesting a
higher social class.
• The second shot mise-en scene signifies a lower social class. The lighting,
wire fences and old tires and costumes all connote the a lower social
class.
Representation and ideology

• The two groups of characters are represented due to the two different dance
genres. ‘ hip hop and ballet’ both have different connotations
• First 30 seconds is non digetic sound the first sequence you can hear
mumbled convocations and bags been placed on floor, nothing of
symbolic meaning. Whereas the second sequence you can hear police
sirens. Representing the location and signifying the characters

Camera Shots, Editing and Sound
• The first sequence is a long shot /establishing shot signifies the
location. There is not a lot of variation in shot types within the
opening to minutes.
• The first shot fades out into another long shot, signifying the
contrast between each shot, theme or characters.
• The cuts and editing are fast paced. Each shot last a maximum of
3 seconds, each cut fades into one another signifying the
contrast in characters and dance genre.
• The sound is non digetic for the first 30 seconds, 30 seconds
onwards goes into a well known ‘hip hop’ song show Me the
Money –
