Dear English 322 Students,

It is almost Fall 2015. Welcome to Evergreen Valley College and to our class: English
322 Introduction to College Reading! Although the semester will not begin for a few
more weeks, I want you to have this introductory letterhoping that you will read it
carefully and completely. This contains helpful information about course basics, contact
information, and important dates.
Briefly, English 322 is one of the courses offered by the Reading Department at
Evergreen Valley College. The catalog describes it as follows: This course
strengthens and expands reading and study skills using a variety of teaching
approaches and materials. It develops vocabulary, complex comprehension, and
study/reference skills. Students that do well in the course spend a minimum of nine (9)
hours per week (for a total of 16 weeks) doing and completing required course
assignments. At the end of the term, those students earn three units and will be eligible
to register for the next class, which is English 102.
Our class is a hybrid. This means that we will meet certain dates in our classroom in
Cedro 101c, and during other times, we will have our class meetings online. We will
use the colleges Course Management System (CMS) which is called Moodle. I will
send you a separate email message with instructions on how to access Moodle; you will
need internet access.

For questions/problems regarding Moodle, please contact:

ITSS Helpdesk
Phone: (408) 270-6411
E-mail: helpdesk@sjeccd.edu
Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm

While we will not have our first face-to-face session until Monday, 08-31-2015, the
online portion of our class will be available as early as Monday, August 24th, 2015. It
will be a great idea if you were to log-on to explore how our class looks as well as begin
reading the handouts that I already posted. More importantly, you can begin (and even
complete) coursework already!
