Haze consists of dust, smoke and other pollutants which obscure the clarity
of the sky. The colour of haze is a light shade of brown. Haze is formed when
smoke particles and dust gather in the dry air and form a shroud that
worsens visibility and causes health complications for people with respiratory
problems.
Haze is a regular problem in Malaysia due to a number of reasons.
Some of these reasons could include prolonged dry weather, or even too
many causes of pollution like open burning, land clearing and forest fires.
The haze that hit Malaysia in 2005 nearly brought the central part of
Peninsular Malaysia to a standstill. It was at its worst on August 11, 2005
when it reached levels of more than 500 on the API. The burning of forests in
Indonesia is responsible for prolonged episodes of haze that have affected
the country.
