Summary report: Crane tensile and leak test 32 & 63mm

Report number ref:

Date compiled:
Project Number:

Test requirement:

C-R035A
30th March 2012
KP027
Internal

Method:
Assemble test piece and note load required to assemble where required
Test for leak tightness at 25mbar and 7 bar
Test piece with fittings placed in freezer over night to bring test assembly down to at least 20C
With the tensile test rig set up to test and wearing insulating gloves remove each sample,
install on tensile test machine and commence test with minimum delay
Note failure under tensile or up to the specified limit of 20kn
If test piece survives retest the leak tightness once samples have returned to room
temperature (allow 24 hrs)

Results:
32mm:
Tensile load required to pull out the 32mm inserts:
Min 14.3 kn / max 20kn limit average 18.5kn
Nb PE pipe yield at approx. 5kn
63mm:
Tensile load required to pull out the 63mm inserts:
All 20kn min fitted with snap ring (note snap ring design is primary securing mechanism)
Nb PE pipe yields at approx. 20 kn
All test samples passed initial leak test the maximum 20kn loading was too great for the
32mm samples to survive subsequently the 63mm samples did continue to pass the post tensile
leak test leak test is the standard 25mbar and 7bar as specified in GIS/PL3 Cl 8.3

Conclusion:
All 32mm and 63mm samples tested showed far in access the minimum requirement (PE yield limit)
before failure and suitable for requirement there was a max limit set to the test of 20kn which was
easily surpassed by the larger 63mm designs separate testing to destruction of the 63mm recorded
in access of 150KN before testing was stopped (this without failure)
