LANGUAGE ARTS/LITERATURE/LATIN POLICIES

GRADING:
Homework: Assigned as needed for practice and extension of concepts. Since
it is not necessarily given every day it is important that students write it in their
planner. Also, it will be listed on my website! Homework will be graded and will vary
in length and content.
Writing Assignments: These assignments may be given as homework or may
be done in class.
Quizzes: Given at random. The quiz will be given on material currently being
learned for assessment and evaluation by the student.
Tests: Given at the end of the chapter/unit.
Projects: Sometimes there will be projects. They will be given a longer time
to complete and will be used to apply concepts to real life. They may take the place
of a chapter/unit test. Projects count as a test grade. Depending on the project, it
may be worth two test grades, but that will be communicated prior to the
assignment.
BEHAVIOR:
In the classroom we have a behavior/reward chart. At the end of every
month, students that didnt receive a behavior letter will receive a homework pass or
a certificate for 5 bonus points on a test. Homework passes may substitute for a
homework assignment (which can be used on any homework, BUT NOT WRITING,
assignment). HW passes/bonus certificates are good all year long but cannot be
traded or sold. The HW pass/bonus certificate will be valid with the teacher for whom
they earned it.
Behavior letters will be earned for the following:
L=Late to class (If student is not seated at the bell).
U=Unprepared (Must have materials neededdoes not count homework).
R=Rude or dis-Respectful
T= Talking out of turn
N=Not following rules/Not following directions
If a student gets three behavior letters on the chart, they will receive a 30-minute
after-school detention. Refer to the handbook for further clarification.
