What is a Student Leader?


A Student Leader is a specially elected scholar that oversees responsibilities in the lab for which
Mr. Goebel needs help.
What is a Student Co-leader?
A Student Co-leader is a specially elected scholar that fills in for the Student Leader in his/her
absence and assists the leader at times that the leader has multiple responsibilities.
When are elections?
Student Leaders are elected every nine weeks.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible, a scholar must have a 90% or above for Mr. Goebels class.
How does the election run?
On the day of the electiono One scholar will write down the names of interested candidates on the white
board leaving space to tally votes next to each name
o After all names have been written, one scholar will distribute ballots (post its) to
all students in the classroom
o After all ballots have been distributed, scholars will write only one name of an
eligible candidate (those who write more than one, will be discarded)
o After the scholar that distributed the ballots has written down his/her choice,
he/she will collect all of the other ballots without delay and give them to Mr.
Goebel
o Mr. Goebel will read the ballots aloud, and are scholars are highly encouraged to
cheer, but will not be permitted to boo, hiss, or in any way be discouraging.
o As names are read, the scholar at the board will mark tallies by each name
o The winning candidate is the Student Leader and the runner-up is the Co-leader
o In the event of ties, names with the least votes are erased from the board and the
process repeats.
What responsibilities do the Student Leaders have?
As Mr. Goebel may require different help at different times, the responsibilities will vary.
However, some responsibilities includeDistribution (and redistribution) of materials and work
Informing absent students about missed work upon their return
Requesting extra copies or handouts from Mr. Goebel
Signing Hall Passes (Mr. Goebel will not accept passes from any other scholar, to reduce
distractions)
Ensuring that the lab is clean during End-of-Class (clean up time before the bell)
Reminding Mr. Goebel of where his/her class period left off during previous instruction
