His Royal Highness,Oba Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, has

called on the Kingmakers to ensure that a competent person succeeded the late
Ooni of Ile- Ife, Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse 11.

Akinruntan told journalists in an interview in Ibadan that doing so was the only
way of sustaining the standard set by the previous occupiers of the stool.
Both Oba Adesoji Aderemi and his successor, Sijuwade, were able to uplift the
standard of the throne.
Infact, Aderemi even became a governor in his own time, which is a testimony to
the high profile reign he had in Ile-Ife, he said.

The monarch, who said that looking for a replacement for Ooni was not all about
academic profile of the person or the lineage he belonged to, stated it was about
his quality.
If the kingmakers decided to install a sub-standard candidate, then the profile of
the stool would be lowered, he said.
Akinruntan, who made reference to his emergence as the Olugbo of
Ugbokingdom because of his drive, said that any mistake in made in selecting a
wrong person as a successor, would have negative effects on the throne.
