Changing Pattern of IIT-JEE and performance of Jabalpur Students Getting a prized seat in one of the IITs has been a tough task since last many decades. In year 2005, more than 70 % of the students who qualified in IIT JEE had taken drop for one year or more.ITs were not happy with the profile of the students who were joining them. They were burnt out and exhausted under systems prevailing at cities like Kota. They were not faring very wel in IITs ‘The aforesaid system also undermined the importance and utility ofthe school system. Students who join in Class ‘XXII don’t goto schools. They get proxy attendance. Nobody can deny that schooling has its own importance in evelopment of overall personality ofan individual. In IITIEF 2006, JEE Advisory Board made the changes in the pattern to deal with these problems. These changes have made a tremendous impact on the admission patterns, Now, almost 70% of the students who get through, are |sttimers . Moreover, students from small towns and cities are getting sclected in big numbers. Inthe new pattem, a student has only two chances- one inthe year he/she is appaering for XII Boardand second the ‘very next year: Therefore, itis advisable to prepare along with Class XI & XII, i.e. immediately after X exam, IITJEE has always laid emphasis on testing the fundamentals alongwith analytical and comprehensive abilities of f student. Students having the sound fundamental knowledge of all level of graded concepts will always ‘outperform the students who are only confining their preparation to the pattern rather than understanding the ‘concepts, Students who follow the basic approach to make their core fundamental knowledge clear to the optimum level, always surpass the otherat any levelipattern of exam. Jabalpur has started showing its position in IT JEE result in lst few years. It all started with one of our student ‘Aakash Paharia striking a high rank of 196 in the year 2007. No wonder, his success was inspirational and now 50 ‘odd students get selected in IIT every year from this city. One must take a note of the fact that most ofthese students 4id their preparation at Jabalpur only. We keep hearing about lot many students moving from Iabalpur to Kota for their preparation but we find very few cases ofa student of our city getting selected after spending his/her two years atKota. In year 2011 record of Jabalpur is going to be bettered. Our students have done well and most likely results ‘willbe out when this magazine is in press. When you willbe reading this article you will already be knowing about the fantasti resultby our students No doubt, we at Jabalpur impart top level of teaching and material. It is up to you, how you use it, If you are ‘determined and prepared to work hard, we- the MOMENTUM team is equally ready to extend full supportto you. To getthrough competitive exams- which we call ISM Dhanbad four “bridges of career’, nether lac in strength nor knowledge are Ex, Student, MOMENTUM | arries fut what makes most fail is in the lack of will and self ‘confidence, Ihave seen many geniuses and sharp minders losing their temperament during the final cal ust like as if you batted with ample concentration andeffor to getto 99 and then losing yourself out atthe time when pressure falls you. ‘Whats most importantisto give; your 100% effort each time you get an opportunity. And IEE all about getting yourbasiesright and implementing them by each and every angle oft, Well, ““Confidence is preparation. Everything elseis beyond you control.” "Now, coming to most JEE aspirants dilemma which isthe socalled Bourd exams and JEE see-saw. Frankly speaking. 1 didn’t care about my board exams much. The syllabus ofboth are much the same. [knew if understood the concepts taught at Momentum clearly, then just reading the books for board one or two times willbe sufficient for me to score high in boards and so happened. This strategy helped me to get 93.2% in CBSE XII Board exams and also clearing JEE 2010, The balance ‘between JEE and boards can easily be controlled, you just need to plan yourself well and just believe in Momentum faculty, they are for you, more than you. Wel, baht fundae de die, zyada fundaebazi nahi karunga, bus tna kehunga jo dhoni hamesha kehta hat “Just plan forthe present and the future will ake care ofitself” and weall know itd. ‘With this I wouldjustsay “ Happy preparations” and you remember always “Success doesn't cometo you, you gotoit” = = 3 =] aq s = = s = e oS = Ss i) [a i=) — (r) = i = (7) = Key Factors other than ae work @s@ To crack ITTJEE not only work is required but also “Article By: some other things such as your confidence level, " positive attitude, self motivation ete, Hard work is not Karan Kakwani theonly key factor for ITE, 2 Yr. student, B. Tech., IIT Kharagpur [Now you also have to keep yourself away from de~ Ex, Student, MOMENTUM motivators, By de-motivators I mean those who say, “Hey Dumbo! you could not even solve this easy problem?" [Now this is the commonest way friends use to pull down friends. You will also come to hear "I attempted 1 out of 12 questions, what did youdo?™, when you tually knew there was time to attempt just 7! ‘Therefore, simple antidote from these De-motivators is stay away from them. Don't lt stray sarcastic comments run down your enthusiasm, There may be students who are smarter than you and can succeed faster than you. I's OK if you are not the [BEST. That's the way most ofus are anyway. Just work to ensure yourselection in JEE. Now Iam going o tell youthe common mistakes made by theJEE aspirants, 1. Theyoverload themselves with loads of books and finally end up doing nothing. Advice: Never overload yourself with tons of books. Two to three books are sufficient to rack JEE and ry to repeat the same problems, 2, PROCASTINATION. Advice: Do not make false promises to yourself. I'you ate still postponing your work for tomorrow then be ready to facethe music, 3. Many overstress themselves for whatever they do. Tension affects preparation and results badly. Advice: Don't worry too much. This is a major problem. People worry so much about lasses/tests(correspondence/teachers!notes/books/college/boyftiend/gilfriend foodshostel.. you get the point. If [were to say itbluntly "Justshut up! Open the books and tart doing the damn problems. Dothe best youcan, [And do not be too much obsessed with JEE and its preparation, One must not keep his eye fixed on the end only; rather one should enjoy the journey. Believe me JEE is not that difficult, . Some facts for you Children of Doctors enjoy ahigher success rate in ITTJEE as compared to those of Engineers ‘Themaximum number of aspirants taking the IEE are children of government employees. Problems ‘ing Physics Ee 3 Ay Ero Si Os Stages in Solving Physics Problems Analysis of the Physical Contents of a Problem : Analysis ofa problem is reduced to isolating and analyzing the physical phenomenon, One must write down and try to understand the data and sought quantities and the relationship between them. Next itis necessary to make a sketch, and mark all the data on it. A graphical image rakes it possible to picturize the physical phenomena contained in the problem. The analysis of the physical contents of problems how to start solving a problem and what must done to solve any formulated physics problem. ‘The Physical Stage : The physical stage begins with aequainting oneself with the terms of the problem and finishes ‘with setting up a closed system of equations whose unknown terms include the sought quantities. When the closed system of equationshas been setup, the problemis assumed solved from the stand-point of physics. ‘The Mathematical Stage : The mathematical stage begin with solving the closed system of equations and finishes with obtaining solution othe problem in general form followed by a numerical answer, Analysis of Solution : After the solution has been obtained in general form and inthe form of a numerical answer, the stage of analysis begins. Analysis ofthe answer often involves the following procedures: (i Study ofthe dimensions ofthe object quantity, (ii) Verification thatthe obtained numerical answer is physically meaningful and corresponds to the possible values of the sought quantity; say if the velocity of an object is found to be higher than the speed of light in empty spake (c~3x10' mis) the answers, obviously, erroncous; and (iii) Correspondence ofthe answer tothe terms ofthe problem ifa multivalued answerhas been obtained. ‘Toa certain extent analysis of a creative process, Henee, the method just deseribed must not be too right and ‘may incorporate a number of other elements, depending on the hypothesis ofthe problem.
