There are 2 types of information contained in a cell:


Value: Final calculated result
Formula: The process for calculation of the final value

Illustration:
A formula is used to calculate the value of a cell based on the values in the other cells. An
illustration is as follows:
Here, the value in the cell B1 is calculated as the product of the values in A2 and B2.

However, as we can see, only the final calculated value is shown in the cell B1. In order
to display the formula, we press the function key F2. The value of the formula is
displayed as below:

The method Excel uses to distinguish between a value and a formula is that a formula
always begins with an = sign which indicates the beginning of a calculation to be made
based on certain input values.
