Number Talk Steps

1. Write the computation problem on the board/easel.

2. When the students have all put a thumb up, ask
students for solutions. Record these solutions without
commenting on accuracy.
3. Ask students for strategies. While the students walk
you through their strategy, capture their strategy in
writing. You could put their name next to the strategy
too.
4. Once you have recorded a couple strategies, as a
group agree on a solution.
5. Repeat steps for additional problems.
