Gian Marco Javier Zignago Alcver (born in Lima, Peru on August 17, 1970) is

a Peruvian singer-songwriter. He has won theLatin Grammy Award to the Best SingerSongwriter Album three times. First in 2005 for his Album "Resucitar", [1] in 2011 for his Album
"Das Nuevos",[2] and in 2012 for his Album "20 Aos". Gian Marco was named UNICEF
Goodwill Ambassador in Peru. His mother is the well-known Peruvian actress and singer Mara
Regina Alcver Ureta, and his father was the late Peruvian composer and singer Javier scar
Florencio Zignago Vias, known in the musical world as Joe Danova (of Genoese descent[3]).

Biography[edit]
Childhood Beginnings[edit]
Gian Marco was born in Lima, Peru on August 17, 1970. His mother is the Peruvian actress
and singer Mara Regina Alcver Ureta, and his father the Peruvian composer and singer
Javier scar Florencio Zignago Vias, best known as Joe Danova. As the son of artists, Gian
Marco was introduced to music at very early age. The art surrounded him during his childhood.
Gian Marco grew up listening to the songs of his father, and watching his mother perform in
theater.
As a child he traveled with his parents and learned to love the life style of an artist. At age 12,
Gian Marco sang for the first time on television in the Argentine TV show Domingos Gigantes"
(Giant Sundays), broadcast by Channel 9 in Buenos Aires under the direction of Orlando
Marconi. A year later, Gian Marco sang in Caracas on the TV show La Revista de los
Sbados" (The Saturday Magazine) impressing viewers that enjoyed a thirteen-year-old child
singing a popular song titled "Eva Maria". At the age of six he recorded a 45 rpm together with
his father entitled "Navidad Es" (Christmas Is).[4]
Gian Marco attended elementary school, middle school, and High school at the Colegio Santa
Margarita[5] located in Monterrico, a middle-class neighborhood in the district ofSantiago de
Surco, [Lima|Lima]. He played the guitar and sang in all school activities. In 1981, at age 11,
Gian Marco recorded a song for the musical "Papito Piernas Largas (Daddy Long Legs). His
mother also participated in the play. During his youth, Gian Marco participated in a series of
artistic events, singing and acting, developing his talents and preparing for what would become
a successful career. After finishing school, at the age of 18, Gian Marco traveled to Santiago
de Chile to pursue a graphic design career. Although things we going well for him in the
graphic design field, Gian Marco continued to feel the pull of a music career. In order to prove
himself as an artist, he began playing in the most popular venues in Santiago and Via del
Mar where he began to make a name for himself.[5]

First album[edit]
A year and a half later he returned to Lima and one of his songs classified for the Peruvian
version of the Festival OTI 1989. He managed to capture the attention of the press, being the
most publicized artist at the event. It was there that Discos Independientes proposed recording

his first album. At the beginning of 1990 his first production hit the national record market with
the title Gian Marco, under the musical direction of Pepe Ortega.
In 1992 he recorded his second long play production with the title, Personal, produced in
Santiago, Chile by Pepe Ortega. From this recording the songs Te Extraar (I will miss you)
and Dame un Beso (Give Me a Kiss) made the charts that year.
In September 1993 he won first place in the national version of the Festival OTI, and gained
the right to represent Per in the XXII edition of the International Festival OTI with his
song Volvamos a Empezar (Let's Start Over). The International Festival took place in Valencia,
Spain.

Television and national recognition[edit]


In the mid to late 1990s he came back with other successful productions. He began to dedicate
himself to composing songs, and he was called to conduct one of the most popular game
shows, Campaneando, together with Bruno Pinasco. Conducting this program was crucial in
gaining the recognition of the wider Peruvian public.
His television appearance combined with a prolific period of musical activity. He composed and
recorded the discs, Entre la arena y la luna' (Between the Sand and the Moon) (1994), Seora,
cunteme (Lady, Tell Me) (1994) and Al quinto da (On the Fifth Day) (1997). His fourth
album, Seora, cunteme, is a tribute to cancin criolla in which he affirms with his music the
appreciation that he has for the feeling of native peoples like those in Per.

International success[edit]
Inspired by his own dreams and a blind faith in his talent, Gian Marco decided to travel to the
United States, convinced that he needed to introduce his artistic talent to the international
market. He got the attention of Emilio Estefan who contracted him as a composer and
performer. He worked with Estefan on a couple tracks for Mandy Moore's self-titled album. This
did not stop him from working on his own material, and he published A tiempo (On Time)
(2002) under the seal of Crescent Moon / Sony.
This last disc was heard on the most significant radio stations in the world, and sold more than
50,000 copies in Spain and thousands more around the world. The album supplied him with 3
nominations to the Latin Grammys and confirmed him as the most significant Peruvian singsongwriter of recent times.
In that same year, Gian Marco recorded the theme song for the Americas Cup (Soccer) that
would be played in Per in 2004. The song, entitled, Ms all de los sueos (Beyond Dreams),
became a resounding success.

In 2003 he received the Artista Revelacin Latino (Emmerging Latin Artist) prize in the
Musical Arts Awards of the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores de Espaa (SGAE)
(Spanish General Society of Authors and Editors).
Later came the album Resucitar (Resurrection) (2004), a much more organic album that, as he
says, doesn't sing as much about lost love as the previous one, it's a more positive album. This
disc had unbelievable success, which brought him a Latin Grammy in 2005. Several singles
sprang from this album: Resucitar (Resurrection), Sin querer (By Accident), Gota de lluvia (A
Drop of Rain), Despus de mi (After Me), Lejos de ti (Far from You), and Soy (I Am).

15 years of career[edit]
On 2005 Gian Marco made a great show for his 15 year career, which was held at the Estadio
Monumental de Per and had more than 40,000 spectators. Several guests including Regina
Alcover (his mother), Mauricio y palo de agua, Pelo Madueo y Antonio Cartagena, among
others, clothed in this emotional Gianmarco concert. The concert ended with a magnificent
rendition ofHoy(Today), which ended with a mix of huaynos and recognition of the great
Peruvian singer.
On 2006 publishes an album called Grandes xitos(Greatest Hits), with Phantom records, only
in Peruvian territory. This album focuses at Gian Marco's fifth album Al Quinto Da(The Fifth
Day), and also highlight the best songs of his other works.
Also that year, he recorded the song for the animated film Dragones: Destino de
fuego (Dragons: Destiny of Fire), where is the interpreter of the same soundtrack, also titled
"Destino de fuego".
On November 17, 2006 Gian Marco launches "8", which is his latest studio material. This
album contains 10 unreleased tracks and features the first single in Peruvian territory a song
titled No te avisa (It Doesn't Warn You). In Colombia and the rest of the world, the first single
is Qu Pasa? (What's Up?), a song in which Gian Marco foray into the rap and gives its
followers a somewhat different sound than they normally are used to hear.

Gradually, the singer has been making public the Latin American market as a composer, and
also has written songs for Marc Anthony (Este Loco Que Te Mira, Hasta Que Vuelvas
Conmigo, Caminar), Pandora (Mientras Tanto), Jon Secada (Amanecer, Si No Fuera Por
Ti), Jaci Velasquez (Bendito Amor), Obie Bermdez (Me Cans De Ti, El
Recuerdo), Emmanuel (En Otra Vida), Alejandro Fernndez (Canta Corazn, Tengo Ganas,
Dame Un Minuto, No se me hace facil olvidar), or Gloria Estefan (Hoy, Tu Fotografa, Mientras
Tanto), Luis Enrique (Parte de este juego), among others.

Gianmarco has been important brand image as Pepsi, Inca Kola, currently one of the leading
companies in mobile telephony in Peru Claro. Is recognized as one of the best songwriter in
Peruvian history.
20 Years. This CD was made for celebrate 20 years of artistic life. There are 20 songs, 18 of
which are old but recorded again, with one shift and two unreleased songs "Invisible" and "In
another Life. The song "Invisible" was composed by Gian Marco and Amaury Gutierrez.

UNICEF en el Per. Su madre es la conocida actriz y cantante peruana Mara Regina Alcver
Ureta , y su padre era el difunto compositor y cantante peruano Javier Zignago scar
Florencio Vias, conocido en el mundo musical como Joe Danova (de ascendencia

Gian Marco naci en Lima , Per , el 17 de agosto de 1970. Su madre es la actriz y cantante
peruana Mara Regina Alcver Ureta , y su padre, el compositor y cantante peruano Javier
Zignago scar Florencio Vias, ms conocido como Joe Danova . Como hijo de artistas, Gian
Marco fue introducido a la msica a muy temprana edad. El arte lo rode durante su
infancia. Gian Marco creci escuchando las canciones de su padre, y viendo a su madre
actuar en teatro.
Como un nio que viajaba con sus padres y aprendi a amar el estilo de vida de un artista. A
los 12 aos, Gian Marco cant por primera vez en televisin en el programa de televisin
argentino "Domingos Gigantes" (Gigante domingos), transmitido por Canal 9 de Buenos
Aires bajo la direccin de Orlando Marconi . Un ao ms tarde, Gian Marco cant
en Caracas en el programa de televisin "La Revista de los Sbados" (La Revista Sbado) los
espectadores impresionantes que gozaban de un nio de trece aos de edad, cantando una
cancin popular titulada "Eva Mara". A la edad de seis aos grab un 45 rpm junto con su
padre titulado "Navidad Es" (Navidad Is).

Gian Marco asisti a la escuela primaria, escuela secundaria y el bachillerato en el Colegio


Santa Margarita [5] ubicado en Monterrico, un barrio de clase media en el distrito deSantiago de
Surco , [Lima | Lima]. l tocaba la guitarra y cantaba en todas las actividades escolares. En

1981, a los 11 aos, Gian Marco grab una cancin para los musicales "Papito Piernas
Largas" (Daddy Long Legs). Su madre tambin particip en la obra. Durante su juventud, Gian
Marco particip en una serie de eventos artsticos, cantando y actuando, desarrollando su
talento y la preparacin para lo que se convertira en una exitosa carrera. Despus de terminar
la escuela, a la edad de 18, Gian Marco, viaj aSantiago de Chile para seguir una carrera de
diseo grfico. Aunque las cosas nos van bien para l en el diseo grfico campo, Gian Marco
continu a sentir el tirn de una carrera musical. Con el fin de probarse a s mismo como
artista, comenz a tocar en los lugares ms populares de Santiago y Via del Mar , donde
comenz a hacerse un nombre por s mismo. [5]

Primer lbum [ editar ]


Un ao y medio ms tarde regres a Lima y de una de sus canciones clasificadas para la
versin peruana del Festival OTI 1989. Se las arregl para captar la atencin de la prensa,
siendo el artista ms publicitado en el evento. Fue all donde Discos Independientes propone
la grabacin de su primer lbum. A principios de 1990 su primera produccin lleg al
mercado rcord nacional con el ttulo Gian Marco, bajo la direccin musical de Pepe Ortega.
En 1992 graba su segunda produccin de larga duracin con el ttulo, Personal, producido en
Santiago de Chile por Pepe Ortega. De esta grabacin las canciones Te extraare (Voy a
extraarte) y Dame Un Beso (Dame un beso) hecho las listas de ese ao.
En septiembre de 1993 obtuvo el primer lugar en la versin nacional del Festival OTI, y se
gan el derecho de representar al Per en la XXII edicin del Festival OTI Internacional con
su cancin Volvamos a Empezar (Vamos a empezar de nuevo). El Festival Internacional tuvo
lugar en Valencia, Espaa .

Televisin y reconocimiento nacional [ editar ]


A mediados a finales de 1990 regres con otras producciones de xito. Comenz a dedicarse
a componer canciones, y fue llamado para llevar a cabo uno de los programas de juegos ms
populares, Campaneando, junto con Bruno Pinasco . La realizacin de este programa fue
crucial para ganar el reconocimiento del pblico peruano en general.
Su aparicin en televisin combinada con un perodo prolfico de la actividad
musical. Compuso y grab los discos, Entre la arena y la luna '(Entre la Arena y la Luna)
(1994),Seora, cunteme (Seora, Tell Me) (1994) y Al da quinto (el quinto da) (1997 ). Su
cuarto lbum, Seora, cunteme, es un homenaje al criolla cancin en la que se afirma con su

msica la apreciacin que tiene para el sentimiento de los pueblos originarios como los de
Per.

xito internacional [ editar ]


Inspirado por sus propios sueos y una fe ciega en su talento, Gian Marco decidi viajar a los
Estados Unidos, convencido de que tena que presentar a su talento artstico para el mercado
internacional. l llam la atencin de Emilio Estefan quien lo contrat como compositor e
intrprete. Trabaj con Estefan en un par de canciones para Mandy Moorelbum homnimo
's. Esto no le impidi trabajar en su propio material, y public un tiempo (On Time) (2002) bajo
el sello de la Media Luna Luna / Sony.
Este ltimo disco se escucha en las estaciones de radio ms importantes en el mundo, y
vendi ms de 50.000 copias en Espaa y miles ms en todo el mundo. El lbum le
suministr 3 nominaciones al Grammy Latino s y lo confirma como el peruano ms
importante cantar y compositor de los ltimos tiempos.
En ese mismo ao, Gian Marco grab el tema principal de la Copa Amrica (ftbol) que se
jug en Per en 2004. La cancin, titulada Ms all de los sueos (Ms all de los sueos), se
convirti en un xito rotundo.
En 2003 recibi el premio Artista Revelacin Latino (Emmerging Artista Latino) en las Artes
Musicales Premios de la Sociedad General de Autores y Editores de Espaa (SGAE )
(Sociedad General Espaola de Autores y Editores).
Ms tarde vino el lbum Resucitar (Resurreccin) (2004), un lbum mucho ms orgnico que,
como l dice, no canta tanto sobre el amor perdido que el anterior, es un lbum ms
positivo. Este disco tuvo un xito increble, que le trajo un Grammy Latino en 2005. Varios
individuales surgi de este lbum: Resucitar (Resurreccin), Sin querer (por accidente), Gota
de lluvia (Una Gota de lluvia), despues de mi (Despus de m ), Lejos de ti (lejos de ti)
y soja (Yo Soy).

15 aos de carrera [ editar ]


En 2005 Gian Marco hizo un gran espectculo para su carrera de 15 aos, que se celebr en
el Estadio Monumental de Per y tena ms de 40.000 espectadores. Varios invitados, entre
ellos Regina Alcover (su madre), Mauricio y palo de agua, Pelo Madueo y Antonio Cartagena,
entre otros, vestidos de este emotivo concierto de Gianmarco. El concierto termin con una

magnfica interpretacin de Hoy (Hoy), que termin con una mezcla de huaynos y el
reconocimiento de la gran cantante peruana.
En 2006 publica un lbum llamado Grandes xitos (Greatest Hits), con registros Phantom,
slo en territorio peruano. Este disco se centra en el quinto lbum de Gian Marco Al Quinto
Da (El Quinto Da), y tambin resaltar las mejores canciones de sus otras obras.
Tambin ese ao, grab la cancin para los Dragones de la pelcula animada: Destino de
fuego (Dragones: Destino de Fuego), donde es el intrprete de la misma banda sonora,
tambin titulado "Destino de fuego".
El 17 de noviembre 2006 Gian Marco lanza " 8 ", que es su ms reciente material de
estudio. Este lbum contiene 10 temas inditos y cuenta con el primer sencillo en territorio
peruano una cancin titulada No te avisa (It Does not Warn You). En Colombia y el resto del
mundo, el primer sencillo es Qu Pasa? (qu pasa?), una cancin en la que Gian Marco
incursin en el rap y da a sus seguidores un sonido un poco diferente de lo que normalmente
se utilizan para escuchar.

Actualidad [ editar ]
Poco a poco, la cantante ha estado haciendo pblico el mercado latinoamericano como
compositor, y tambin ha escrito canciones para Marc Anthony (Este Loco Que Te Mira, Hasta
Que Vuelvas Conmigo, Caminar), Pandora (Mientras Tanto), Jon Secada (Amanecer, Si No
Fuera Por Ti), Jaci Velasquez (Bendito Amor), Obie Bermdez (Me Canse De Ti, El
Recuerdo), Emmanuel (En Otra Vida), Alejandro Fernndez (Canta Corazn, Tengo Ganas,
Dame Un Minuto, No se me hace facil olvidar), o Gloria Estefan (Hoy, Tu Fotografa, Mientras
Tanto), Luis Enrique (Parte of this game), entre otros.
Gianmarco ha sido imagen de marca importante como Pepsi , Inca Kola , actualmente una de
las empresas lderes en telefona mvil en Per Claro . Es reconocido como uno de los
mejores compositor en la historia peruana.
20 Aos. Este CD fue hecho para celebrar los 20 aos de vida artstica. Hay 20 canciones, 18
de las cuales son viejas pero grabada de nuevo, con un turno y dos canciones inditas
"Invisible" y "En otra vida". La cancin "Invisible" fue compuesta por Gian Marco y Amaury
Gutirrez.
