Date Written: August, 2011

Issue:
Customer complaints of banding and / or missing color on the Color LaserJets
CP5225 and CP5525. The reported colors are Magenta and/or Cyan.
Sample 1: banding

Sample 2: one color missing

Solution or Work around:

Examination of failing printers has shown that the missing or banding color is
caused by the Upper Cartridge Guide Assembly.

1) a grounding spring on the back of the assy is out of position

2) its being pulled out slightly from the front of the printer. Typically this is most
visible at the center protrusion of the guide between the Magenta and
Cyan cartridges as shown below:

When this guide is pulled away from the printer frame, a gap may be visible
between the guide and the frame and a plastic tab is visible just above the
cartridge slot that should not be.
See pictures below (pictures are taken with cartridges removed):

This issue may be addressed by snapping the guide back into position. In order to
do this, it is necessary to use a small flat-blade screwdriver to help move the tab
behind the sheet metal as shown below. If a customer is unwilling to do this
themselves, a technician may be dispatched to perform the action:

If the guide is damaged or broken it may be replace with the following part
number for both the CP5225 and CP5525:
