GROWTH

HUMAN INTERVENTION

As the number of people

increases,
crowding
generates
pollution,
destroys more habitats,
and uses up additional
natural resources.

HUMAN INTERVENTION
Humans have accelerated the
demand for food and energy to
the extent that entire species
and ecosystems of plants are
being destroyed before scientists
can develop an understanding of
which plant species have the
potential to benefit humanity.

HUMAN INTERVENTION
Most species remain little known;
those that seem to offer the
greatest hope for providing new
sources of food, drugs, and other
useful products exist in tropical
rain forests and other areas
where rapidly growing human
populations can quickly reduce
the land to arid, sandy wastes.

THE WORLDS GROWING POPULATION

Thepopulationofthe
world
is
growing faster and faster. It took a
long time to reach the first billion
people. Each billion after that took
less time.
Thepopulationofthe world doubled
from 3 billion to 6 billionin just
under 40 years! Thats a lot more
people in a very short time.

QUESTION:
Canyouguess
howmany
people there are
in the world?

ANSWER:
Its a big number. The
population of the world is
about
6
billion
(6,000,000,000) people. If all
these people lined up side
by side, they would circle
the Earth at least 60 times.

WE ALL CANT FIT IN HERE!!!

WHY THE POPULATION IS GROWING?

Today,about90million
people
are
added
to
the
world
population every year. The main
reason for this huge growth in
population is a drop in the rate
of death. Fewer babies and
children are dying young, and
adults are living longer than ever
before.

THE FASTEST-GROWING POPULATION

ThepopulationofAfrica
is
growing
faster
than
the
population
of
any
other
continent. Africa also has
some of the worlds poorest
countries. Rapidly growing
populations make it difficult
for poor countries to develop.

REMEDY
Somepoorcountries
are trying to slow
population
growth.
They
encourage
families to have fewer
children.

CONCLUSION
The Literacy rates have increased
and women receive economic
status equal to that of men,
enabling women to hold jobs and
own property. In addition, birth
control
information
in
these
areas is more widely available,
and women are free to make their
own reproductive decisions.
