Churches Stand With Victims of Abuse

Ministering in the community gives pastors a front pew seat to the problems, and reason to support One Place. "

Pastors and churches all over the Shoals area are signing a declaration which puts the
Christian community unequivocally on the side of victims of domestic violence and
sexual assault.!
The declaration also supports One Place of the Shoals and
expresses prayerful and practical encouragement to all the
government and non-profit agencies that serve victims and
prosecute oenders. Church leaders, along with members
of the D.A.s oce, are planning a Summit to further
educate and equip church sta.!
The language in the document is strong and direct in its
condemnation of abuse, encouraging the proper authorities to execute wrath on evil
doers and punish evil works. This wording is taken directly from the New Testament
book of Romans, specifically chapter 13. It is a definitive chapter that shows historic
Christianitys high social ideals and upholds the governments role in promoting a good
society.!

The majority of the declaration however, finds its

substance in a story that Jesus told of a man reaching
across social, racial and religious barriers to help a victim
of violent crime. Churches say that the community needs
to know that the Bible is a place where the broken find a
home, where the abused find safety and where the
troubled find peace.!
