Dear Parents/Guardians,

September 2015

Welcome to Washington Irving and welcome to the 4th Grade!

My name is Mrs. Terri Nolte and I have the honor of being your childs fourth
grade teacher.
The fourth grade curriculum is fun and challenging. Our Envisions Math program
covers double-digit multiplication, long division, decimals, geometry, fractions and
statistics. In Science we study Digestion, Food Chains and Food Webs, Simple Machines,
Rocks and Minerals, and the Organization of the Earth. In Social Studies we explore the
history of New York and Colonial America. Watch for our class website which will a
newsletter each month to keep you up-to-date with where we are and where were
headed.
Our class will read many, many, many books, across many genres. In addition, we
learn to spell more and bigger words, improve our vocabularies, and learn to write fiveparagraph essays and a large variety of stories.
A little about me: I was raised in Arizona and came to New York in order to
continue my studies in music, specifically Vocal Performance. Over time, education called
to me and I obtained my Masters in Education from Manhattanville in Purchase, NY. I
continue to sing on an amateur basis. I am married to a pilot for United Airlines, and my
son is studying digital photography in Northern California. Over the summer I rested in
the mountains in the Catskills and on the beaches in Block Island, Rhode Island, and
Northern California. I attempted to solo hike a section of the Appalachian Trail from
the Delaware Water Gap to the Bear Mountain Bridge. I didnt make it all the way, but it
was a memorable experience! I hope to take our class on a much smaller hike on Turkey
Mountain in Yorktown, NY, sometime on a Saturday in the fall.
The year promises to be a busy one, offering your child many opportunities to learn
and grow. I look forward to working with and getting to know your child. Thank you for
being part of our classroom!
Sincerely,

Mrs. Terri Nolte
