Formal Recruitment Rules

Panhellenic Retreat 2015

Overview
Recruitment Rules Basics
What is their purpose?
Who created them?
What is your role?

Disaffiliation Basics
What is it?
A period of time in which all Panhellenic
Officers and Recruitment Counselors
will not wear their letters or publically
display their affiliation.

Soft Disaffiliation: Duration

Lasts from First Day of Class
(Imagine Day) until Bid Day
Tuesday, September 8 Sunday,
September 27

Why Soft Disaffiliation?

Many of the disaffiliation rules weve had

in previous years placed an undue burden
on RCs and Council
Checking all scrapbooks, for example

Many PNMs from last year had found out

their RCs affiliation, and said this did not
affect their choices
A more realistic view of what is possible
given online presences
Reason for discontinuing online disaffiliation

Soft Disaffiliation:
Rules and Restrictions
An RC may not wear her letters or any other
clothing that reveals her affiliation.
Cannot actively promote chapters
Avoid the appearance of membership or affiliation to
any sorority

May not promote any one chapter or [speak]

negatively of any chapter in all conversations
with potential new members.
May not be present at any of their chapters
recruitment related events, particularly
membership selection.

RCs ARE Allowed To:

Keep Facebook profiles public

Hang out with as many members of their own sorority

(or any other sorority) as they want

Chapters may not prominently [feature] these women

on chapter social media pages, on chapter websites, in
photos displayed in chapter rooms, in chapter
scrapbooks or in recruitment videos.
Group photos are fine

Acknowledge affiliation to a PNM who knows/figures it

out. Please ask her to keep it private.

Infractions
- What is an infraction?
A report on a violation of FR rules

- What do RCs have to do with

infractions?
RCs may file infractions

Panhellenics Judicial Role

Provides education to chapters on FR rules
Fair and realistic enforcement of rules
Values relationship building between chapters
and Panhellenic

Statement of Positive Panhellenic

Contact
1. Only previously established social contact and conversation (not
pertaining to recruitment) shall be allowed between potential new
members and NPC member group members, new members, and
alumnae between the first day of classes until bids are distributed on Bid
Day. However, NPC member group members may only socialize with
these non-affiliates on a one-on-one basis. It is the responsibility of
these individuals to avoid the semblance of impropriety with respect to
the recruitment rules. This does not apply to the strict silence period,
where there shall be no social contact or interaction.
2. Strict silence will begin at the conclusion of preference parties and last
until bid distribution on Bid Day. No sorority member, including alumnae
and new members, may communicate with potential new members
during this period. Strict silence is defined as verbal, nonverbal, written,
and electronic communication or communicating through a third party.
In cases where contact is unavoidable, only casual greetings are
permitted.
