Class Objective
Students will gain a better understanding of the roots, conflicts, and results of major historical events in the
modern (1800 to the present) history of Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. In addition,
students will improve their writing, reading, speaking, and research skills. This class in NOT designed
around a specific textbook. The current textbook, Modern World History, will be used to support our
exploration of primary sources (first person accounts), informational texts from historians, and readings
from a variety of literary sources.

Behavioral expectations

4. Complete all assignments to the best of your ability on the due date.
Class Policies and Procedures
1. Arrival to Class: Each day when you arrive to class look to the board for the days agenda .
2. Tardiness: A signed note from another teacher/admin is the only way a tardy will be excused.
3. Leaving the Classroom during Class: To leave the classroom you must use one of your free passes, sign out,
and take the hall pass.

4. Assignment Submission: All assignments are due at the beginning of class on the designated due date. Complete
your assignments to the best of your ability and turn them in on time. Late Work is Accepted; 10% is automatically removed
for each day the assignment is late. Students can use a Late Work Slip for any assignments under a week late; this will give
them the potential for full points.
5. Absence: Should you be absent from class for any reason, you are responsible for making up missed work. Students are
allowed one day for each absence to make up assignments. For example, if you miss Wednesday, then your work would be due
on Friday. Please contact fellow students during your absence or when you return before talking to me for details. All
documents and assignments will be in the student self-service bin.
6. Food & Drinks: Water & Gum are acceptable (until I find gum on desks)

Grading Policy & Points Breakdown


Ninety-percent (90%) of your grade will be determined by the total of your test, projects, and assignments scores.
The other ten-percent (10%) will be determined by professional points; this being your ability to show up to class
prepared and on time. Here is the grading scale for World Studies:
