Instructions for adding non-supported File

Extensions to Internet Information Server 6.0


The following instruction set will guide you through adding MIME Type associations for
Flash Video and Packet Tracer Activities to Internet Information Server 6.0 (IIS 6)
running on Windows 2003 Server.
You should be logged in as administrator or have administrative rights to the
Windows 2003 Server to add the additional MIME types.
Step 1:
Open the Internet Information Services Management Console
Click All Programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
Step 2:
Expand the tree in the Management Console as shown below and navigate to the folder Web
Sites.
Then Right-Click on the folder called Web Sites and click on Properties.

Step 3:
The Web Sites Properties display box should now appear. Click on the Tab HTTP Headers the
display box.
From the HTTP Headers Tab, click on the button MIME Types that appears near the bottom
of the window (see below).

Step 4:
The MIME Types box should now appear as shown below. Click the New button.

Step 5:
Adding .flv MIME type in IIS (Adds support for Adobe Flash Video Files)
Type ".flv" as the associated extension and "video/x-flv" as the content type.
Select "OK".

Adding .pka MIME type in IIS (Adds support for Cisco Systems Packet Tracer Activity Files)
Type ".pka" as the associated extension and "application/packettracer" as the content type.

Select "OK".

Step 6:
Verify the additional MIME Types (File Extensions) are added and then click OK at the bottom of
the MIME Types property box.

This should complete your installation for the additional MIME Types.

The Following Instructions are the same as above and can be used as a quick
reference guide:

Adding .flv MIME type in IIS


1) Select the site to configure in IIS, right click and select "Properties"
2) Under HTTP Headers Tab, select "File Types" under the MIME Map section and select "New
Type"
3) Type ".flv" as the associated extension and "video/x-flv" as the content type.
4) Select "OK".

Adding .pka MIME type in IIS


1) Select the site to configure in IIS, right click and select "Properties"
2) Under HTTP Headers Tab, select "File Types" under the MIME Map section and select "New
Type"
3) Type ".pka" as the associated extension and "application/packettracer" as the content type.
4) Select "OK".
