Date: 28/08/2015 Time: 1pm Year: Kindy

Learning Area: Science Topic: Dinosaurs

Curriculum content description: (from ACARA)

Students prior knowledge and experience: (Outline what the students
already know about this topic)
-

The students have been working on their number and alphabet skills.
They can count to 25 (with some prompting) and know the alphabet
Unsure on knowledge about dinosaurs

Learning purpose: (May refer to the Elaborations of the curriculum content

description here)
To enable students to create an understanding of the language and process of counting to
20 and the entire alphabet.
To use dot to dots in order to teach the students about counting to 20 and by using the
alphabet

Learning objectives: On completion of

Evaluation:

this lesson, students will be able to:

By the end of the lesson students should be
able to name some different dinosaurs
They should also have a complete dinosaur dot
to dot
They should be able to count to 20, even if its
with help.

In order to evaluate and monitor student

learning I will ask a variety of basic
questions regarding the book on
dinosaurs and also monitor the singing
of the alphabet and counting to 20 - this
allows me to monitor which students
have learnt from the reading of the book
and which ones might need more help
with the dot to dot.

Preparation and Resources:

(Detail what resources will be used and what other preparation of the learning
environment will be required)
-

Book Dinosaurs count to 10

3 different dinosaur dot to dot activities, 8 copies of each which leaves 4 spare.
Wind ups, lead pencils

The students will need to sit on the mat in order to listen to the book and the tables set up
in small groups for the dot to dots to be done.

Catering for diversity

(detail any adjustments considerations for educational/resource

adjustments)

Some students may not be able to count to 20 on their own, have a dot to dot that is lower
Similar with the alphabet.
Monitor students who may be struggling and offer additional assistance

the lesson objectives?)
- Can anyone tell me what number the dot to dots went to?
- Or what is the last letter of the alphabet?
- Can anyone list some dinosaurs?

Lesson Evaluation:
(Reflect on the lesson. What worked? What did not work? What would you change? Why?)

The lesson did not end up happening due to an extremely busy week in the kindergarten
classroom, my mentor teacher only assessed me on my full lesson, therefore I am unable
to reflect on my short lesson and whether or not my plan was effective.
