The Main Problem with Immigration

The main problem with immigration that needs to be solved right now is the
extensive Naturalization Process. Mothers and fathers are separated from
their children and left hopeless.

The Naturalization Process is...

Why Our Problem is Most Important

Leads to an increase in illegal crossings

11 million undocumented citizens
Underpaid workers
An increase in deaths
Prevents economic growth
U.S. is in debt by $16.39 trillion
Americas economic growth is near
around 2%
Prevents family unity
In 2013, 72,410 immigrants were
removed who had one or more
children

Our Solution
To do a full restructure of The Naturalization Process
To pass the Dream Act

New Improvements

Prioritizing family connections, public interests, dangerous conditions

New civics test

Less questions on citizenship test based off of U.S. history

More on government and law

Residency requirements

Interview process

Employing more people to get through more applicants

What is the DREAM Act?

Stands for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors

Proposed process for undocumented immigrants
Grants residency upon meeting qualifications
Requirements
Must be of 16 years of age and has been a U.S. resident for at least 5
years
Graduated from a U.S. high school or has a GED
Roughly 2.1 million deserving candidates

If applicable can become legal US citizens and pursue career and education
interests

Why Our Solution is Ideal

more people citizenship
4.6 million applications pending
Immigrants are job adaptable
More taxpayers lead increase economy
Higher wages for all types of workers (CEA estimates that by 2024
annual wages for native workers will rise 0.3 percent)
Cultural diversity

Higher education and entry way into middle class
Reduces high school dropout rates
Graduation requirement works as an incentive
Supports family ties
Dreamers parents have deportation protection
Creates 1.4 million new jobs
Immigrants more than twice as likely than native-born Americans to
start new businesses

40% of the largest U.S. companies are founded by immigrants

Counter Arguments

Taking jobs
Increase in crime rates
Use of healthcare and other services
Contribute more in payroll taxes
than will ever consume in public
benefits
Do not qualify for welfare, food
stamps, Medicaid, and more

Counter Arguments

Overpopulation
Quota of 5 million
Unproportional usage
of land

Conclusion
Overall, the main problem with immigration is the extensive Naturalization
Process.

In conclusion, our solution is to do a full restructure of the Naturalization

Process by modifying details that could be simplified or removed. In addition,
passing the DREAM Act would benefit students to get higher education.
