In most cases, use "scatter plot" feature as it does not assume any particular trend in the data
Highlight data you want to plot (x-variable in column 1, y-variable in column 2)
Insert - Scatter - select format you prefer
Add legend labels - right click in graph area - Select Data - highlight series name - Edit - add name (same to re-reference series)
Add axis titles - double click on chart area - Layout - Axis Titles - select alignment - type title in resulting text box
Change position of axis labels - right click on axis - Format Axis - change ranges of values, position of tick marks/labels, axis intercepts
To regress data, right click on data - Add Trendline - Linear (or other) - Display Equation - Display R 2
To add error bars, double click on graph - Layout - Error Bars - More Error Bar Options - Custom - Specify Values - Highlight range of cells
