1. What are the main effects during a polymer flood?

Which effects
improve oil recovery? What other effects should be considered and
investigated for design of the polymer flood?

2. When are thermal EOR methods applied? Describe oil and reservoir
properties of a reservoir that represents a typical candidate for steam
drive!
3. Describe the Micellar/Polymer EOR process in detail. What are the
recovery mechanisms? Draw a simple diagram to illustrate the
different injected slugs.
4. How can we define the displacement efficiency? Show the formula and
explain which parts of the equation are affected when using (a)
miscible methods and (b) thermal methods?
5. In which categories can you classify the following EOR methods? Mark
the corresponding EOR category for each of the following EOR
methods.
Polymer flooding
In situ combustion
Alkaline flooding
N2 gas injection
SAGD process

6. Draw a water-oil relative permeability curve and define all axis labels
and important saturations. Then, explain what would happen to the
relative permeability functions, when the reservoir temperature is
increased (e.g. by steam injection).
The initial water saturation is rising and the residual oil saturation is
decreasing as the temperature increases.
7. Capillary number: represents the relative effect of viscosity forces
versus surface tension acting across an interface between two
immiscible liquids. Nca=/. For high Nca (low Sor), reduce
(temperature dependant), use surfactants.
