Laika was a Soviet space dog who became one of the first animals in space, and
the first animal to orbit the Earth. Laika, was a stray dog (caine vagabond) from the
streets of Moscow.
As little was known about the impact of spaceflight on living creatures, they didnt
expect Laika to survive. Some scientists viewed flights by animals as necessary
before human missions.
