Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut.

He was the first human to


journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of
the Earth on 12 April 1961.
Gagarin became an international celebrity, and was awarded many medals and
titles, including Hero of the Soviet Union, the nation's highest honour.

Laika was a Soviet space dog who became one of the first animals in space, and
the first animal to orbit the Earth. Laika, was a stray dog (caine vagabond) from the
streets of Moscow.
As little was known about the impact of spaceflight on living creatures, they didnt
expect Laika to survive. Some scientists viewed flights by animals as necessary
before human missions.

Neil Alden Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first person to walk on
the Moon.
He made his first space flight, as command pilot of Gemini 8, in 1966.

Armstrong's second and last spaceflight was as mission commander of the Apollo
11 moon landing (aterizare), in July 1969. On this mission, Armstrong and Buzz
Aldrin descended to the Moon and spent two and a half hours exploring.
