numbers.Whenlookingatanadditionsentencewith3addendsstudentsshouldlook
firstfortwoaddendsthatmatchoneofthestrategiestheyhavelearnedtobuildaddition
fluency.Thestrategiesstudentshavelearnedinclude:

Countingon+1,+2,+3
Whenanaddendis1,2,or3,studentsstartatthelargeraddendand
countupintheirhead.
Example:2+9=___Studentswouldstartat9intheirhead
andcountup,10,11.
Doubles
Example:4+4=8
Doubles+1
Example:5+4(4+4=8,and8+1=9)
Doubles1
Example:5+4(5+5=10,and101=9)

Studentsshouldcirclethetwoaddendsthatmatchoneofthestrategieslistedabove.
Theyshouldwritethesumofthetwoaddendstheycircledtotherightoftheproblem.
Thentheyshouldaddthatsumtothethirdaddendtofindthesumofthe3numbers.
