CORRELATING STUDENTS

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN
CORE SUBJECTS WITH THEIR
PROFESSORS INDIVIDUAL
ASSESSMENTS

METHODOLOGY

We conducted a global review of all students within the


second year of medical training in our faculty (86 students,
over a one-month period) where we had their professors
complete an assessment questionnaire on each individual
student: a survey based on the Likert scale with four options
designed for this effect. A total of 26 teachers were asked for
.their input

RESULTS, ANALYSIS AND CONCLUSIONS


The attitudes shown by the students within the
classroom

setting

were

correlated

with

their

academic performance at the end of the year; we


.found a high degree of correlation

ACADEMIC ATTITUDE
: The student
1. Has an active attitude toward knowledge adquisition?
2. Looks for topic information independently?
3. Delivers homework on time?
ATTITUDES ABOUT SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT
The student:
4. Is punctual to all classes?
5. Mantains a respectful behaviour?
6. Collaborates well with teamwork, appraising members contributions
and appreciates multidisciplinary work?
PERSONAL SKILLS
The student:
7. Can pinpoint the most important aspects of a topic?
8. Gives truthful and precise answers with well-founded information?
9. Interprets tables, laboratory reports, graphics and scientific figures
correctly?
LEARNING SKILLS
The student:
10. Reviews bibliography before each class?
11. Integrates all academic subjects?
12. Links and assesses newly acquired knowledge with previous
experiences?
