Todays session was reading, two instructional groups to be taken with other groups on
independent tasks.
The learning intention focus was inference and prediction.
The session started with a chapter from class story Georges Marvellous Medicine.
The students settled quickly as they were enthusiastic about the story.
You maintained their engagement with good use of voice, pace and expression.
You were well prepared with a fully detailed lesson plan. Your prior reading of the texts
allowed you to including questions selected to maintain the session focus on inference and
prediction.
It was pleasing to see you reflect initial responses back to the group for other opinions.
With the second group it was an interested little discussion as one child tried to explain the
error in the others thinking. Good that you just tuned in and let to run for a bit as he used
the text to justify his point of view before you entered the discussion to clarify the answer.
Behaviour and time management were in place and the session was well paced.
You scanned the room from the teaching station and offered global praise for their quiet on
task behaviour.
Between groups you waited insisting on full student attention before reviewing the activity
change and move around to check in with students before beginning with the second group.
From this fully planned and prepared session you are clearly gaining and appreciation of
the time and effort needed to be well planned with all resources to hand for each session
and the full day. Welcome to the world of teaching.

Additional comments:

Great to see the anecdotal noted on your timetable type plan. These jottings are a help as
you plan ahead.

Specific considerations for future development:

Continue building on your organisational skills. As a teacher I have found that being fully
organised before you go home makes the next day easier. Morning prep time can so easily
be stolen away by a needy child or a parent.
