What drew me to teaching?

Why would I like to be a

teacher?
Personally, I have always loved helping people. I was brought up in a
Christian family where I learned the values of respect, love and
compassion for others. From a young age I have always been quite
passionate about serving others. I involved myself in a range of social
justice activities and voluntary experiences that permitted me to meet
and work with many different kinds of people, ranging in ages and from
various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
But what I really enjoyed doing was working with and interacting with
young people. I lived and worked as a volunteer in an Indigenous
Australian community; I underwent work experience working as a
teachers aid in primary schools; I aided children in their numeracy and
literacy and tutored young adults in LOTE, as well as having had the
pleasure of leading spiritual retreats for senior students at secondary
school level.
Through all these experiences, and through the inspiration of important
individuals in my own personal and spiritual development, I developed a
passion for wanting to teach and inspire young people; to help learn about
themselves and the world; to encourage them to strive for the highest in
life and to enjoy whatever they choose to do.
As a student myself, I enjoyed school and really developed a passion for
Languages, PE and Religious Education. I linked these passions with my
talents and virtues and through much reflection I felt that, I really want to
do something that has a purpose, something that will impact and that will
make a difference in an individuals life. What better profession than
teaching?
