Precambrian Era
544 million years ago-4.6 billion
years ago

It all started with a big

bang!

This era included 3 major periods:

Hadean period (when the moon and
earth were formed)
Proterozoic period
Archean period
The Precambrian period covers 88% of Earths
history!

Early Earth
The Precambrian Time began with the
formation of earth!
Roughly 4.6 billion years ago.
Scientists believe the earth began as a
ball of dust, rock, and ice in space.
Gravity pulled the masses together
and these materials stuck together.
Kinetic energy changing into thermal
energy caused the hot core
temperatures.

Too hot for water

to remain as
liquid, so there
were no oceans.

As Earth cooled,
water vapor
condensed as rain
and accumulated
as oceans. These
oceans absorbed
carbon dioxide
from the
atmosphere.

Precambrian Life Forms

Fossils found in rocks of Single-celled
organisms from 3.5 billion years ago.
These life forms were similar to
present-day bacteria.
2.5 billion years ago, organisms began
using photosynthesis to get their
energy from the sun.

Protozoa
Single celled eukaryotic animals
Found in soil, freshwater, and oceans
Smallest of all animals; mainly
parasites
amoeba, euglena and paramecium.

Annelids
Worms with cylindrical bodies
Leeches and earthworms

Other Precambrian Lifeforms

Sea pens
Cnidarians
Yeast
Sponges
Corals
Sea cucumbers
Sea urchins
Hydra
Moss
Stromatolites
Girvanella
Blue-green algae
