Launching Place Primary School

Issue 29 Thursday 17th September 2015

Lost Property
At the moment we have a
very large collection of
unlabelled, misplaced or lost
articles of clothing
overflowing from our lost
property container. The items
have been placed in the
hallway so please feel free to
visit the school and browse
through our collection.
Uniforms are not cheap to
purchase.

Planning Week
This week we have had scheduled planning days for our classroom teaching teams
and specialist teachers. They have been busy preparing for the final term with a firm
focus on literacy and numeracy, setting up the integrated topics and assessment.
Allowing time for teachers to plan together ensures that the teaching is consistent
across the level. It gives time for assessment to be moderated so reporting against
AUSvels progression points means the same thing in each classroom. It also allows
teachers to work with their strengths and lead others in
specific curriculum areas.
It seems like the perfect time to acknowledge the work of
our casual relief teachers. This term has had a particularly heavy demand on their
time. At LPPS we have a list of teachers who are called on to take classes when
teachers are absent. They often participate in duties above and beyond the usual
expectations for relief teachers. The expertise and flexibility of our CRT staff ensure
that continuity in classroom routines and practice is maintained for all students.

Holiday Time at Healesville Sanctuary

Spring is baby time at Healesville Sanctuary! Over the holidays, the sanctuary is running special sessions to introduce the public to the newest members of
the sanctuary family. Some of the special activities include:

Say hello to the waddling baby wombats and Rascal the kangaroo joey.
Visit the Baby Burrow inside the Australian Wildlife Health Centre to hear stories about injured, orphaned and hand-raised babies from the very

special team who care for them around the clock - much of the time at home. See baby formulas and milk bottles being prepared in our baby
kitchen and watch baby animals being fed by their carers.
Inside the Australian Wildlife Health Centre, youll also discover the Future Vets play space. Here children can dress up as vets and learn how to care
for their furry friends.
Local wildlife carers will be visiting every day of the September school holidays, on the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday, and then every Wednesday and weekend until 18 December. Meet
the baby animals in their care and share the amazing work they do alongside the Sanctuary in caring for orphaned, injured and rescued wildlife.
Take your favourite toy animal to the sanctuary for a hospital check-up. All children receive a Good Health Certificate to take home.

Remember, kids under 16 are free every weekend, Victorian Government school holidays and public holidays!

Making the Most of the School Holidays - By Parenting Educator Michael Grose
You dont need an instruction manual to make the most of the school holidays. After all, holidays are about kicking your feet up, relaxing and getting away
from the usual routines. Here are some ideas for having a great holiday with you children.

1. Mix up the routines.

The best part about holidays is the change from the routines of school-life. Some kids feel comfortable with the routines of school-life and can feel a little lost
until the new holiday routine kicks in. Be patient and make sure you begin adjusting the routine as returning to school comes closer so kids are prepared for
going to bed and getting up at earlier times.

2. Mix me time with them time.

Plan a mixture of outdoor activities or trips with quiet at home activities where you can relax and recharge your own batteries. The holidays give you a
chance to spend time as a family but you also need to take some time for yourself each day. It helps to let your kids know that you are having some timeout
too.

3. Resist being your childs home entertainment machine.

Give children opportunities to keep themselves occupied or think of inexpensive, fun ways to keep themselves amused. Im bored is an invitation for kids to keep themselves occupied rather
than for you to keep them amused.

4. Team up with other families.

Whether it is sharing celebrations with other families or just holidaying with friends, holidays offer the chance to broaden your childs social circle. These are important relationship-building
activities that bind families together and enable you to build up emotional collateral with kids as they move into adolescence.

Grade 1/2 Poetry

Using the Doors of Poetry to create poems.

Brain
Your brain pumps your blood

What do I write?
Writing, writing,
What do I write?
One step two step, to write something

The Play Date

When my fish died

And it works your body

I remember my play date

When my fish died

On my birthday

To walk, hear, taste, move, smell, feel,

see, talk.

I was so sad

Pumping, thumping.

I didnt want to be late

Ruby and her dogs went to school with us

When my fish died

It makes my heart beep

Walking walking walking, stomp stomp

stomp

My head felt fizzy

My brain smart,

On my birthday.

And it takes care of me.

What will I write?

Dog ran as fast as a tiger

Who looks at this? I have just written a poem.

We all called them

My pen on my paper
I can still not write
Oh dear

The poem is as awesome as a rockstar!

The Scare
Why is there
Thunder?
Why is there thunder?

Happiness Is..

Sad

Happiness is sunshine not rain.

Why sad?

The sound of happiness is laughter of fun,

Why sad?

It means the day is never done.

So we can cry when our mums are gone

It tastes like anything sweet, such as a

dainty treat.

Or we can cry when our dads are gone

It feels like the day has begun,

And your birthday will be really fun.
It smells like a rainy day,
And your mum makes hot chocolate
With yummy marshmallows.
By Juliet P

Because it goes boom,

boom!?

I took one step

It freaked me out.
But I was brave
Another step and another and another

Because it goes flash,

flash!?

Until a THUMP!

Because it goes crash,

crash!?

I found a switch

Why sad?

Because it goes Boom!

Crash! Flash!?

So I ran

Why sad?

By Chelsea S

Or we can cry when we need people

So why are you sad Pip?

Why are you sad Pip?
Why Pip?
By Lincoln L

It made me jummmp.
It wouldnt work
But the door slammed shut
I started to pray
Then my brother turned on the light
And he was laughing!

Student First Aid

St John Ambulance will visit our school on Tuesday 6th October to deliver free First Aid in Schools training
to our students. Through the First Aid in Schools program, trained St John presenters will lead students
from all grades through tailored sessions on the importance of First Aid and what to do in the event of an
emergency. Our junior students will learn about how to identify when there is an emergency, keeping
themselves safe, and how to call for an ambulance. Senior students will learn about delivering CPR
(cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the things they can do to assist in an emergency.
Students will be given a special piece of homework for parents to complete. We encourage you to do
your homework and go online with St John to see how much you know about First Aid. Are you First
Aid READY?
More information about the St John First Aid in Schools program can be found at:
www.stjohnvic.com.au/schools
Thank You for your co - operation .

These awards will be presented at the

first assembly in term 4.
