CREATING A VALUE SCALE

Draw Four (4) rectangles on a blank page in your


sketchbook.
2 for hatching
2 for cross hatching

Hatching
1st scale: divide into 8 boxes. Each box should get
darker as you move from left to right.
2nd scale: create a smooth scale: shading should get
gradually darker as you move from left to right.

gradually darker as you move from left to right.

Value Scales
In the boxes below, create a value scale from the LIGHEST values to the DARKEST values. Each box should progressively get darker.

Now try to create a smooth value scale, without any boxes. Keep in mind GRADUALLY going from lightest darkest.
