WHAT IS PERSPECTIVE

Linear Perspective:

method of drawing 3-D objects in space on a 2-D


surface, creating the illusion of space
Objects that are closer appear larger, objects that are
further appear smaller

Areal Perspective:

Creating the illusion of depth by depicting more


distant objects as paler & less detailed

IMPORTANT VOCABULARY

Horizon line

ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE

When a drawing contains only ONE vanishing


point on the horizon line.

Draw a box.

Connect the corners of the box to the Vanishing Point
using a straight line.

Create the back of your box. Use lines parallel to your
original box and your diagonals to draw the back.

TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE

When a drawing contains TWO vanishing points


on the horizon line.

Draw Horizon Line & TWO Vanishing Point

Draw one edge of your box.

STEP THREE
Connect the top and bottom of the edge to the
Vanishing Point using a straight line.

STEP THREE
Connect the top and bottom of the edge to the
Vanishing Point using a straight line.

STEP FOUR
Create the right and left corners by drawing lines parallel to
your original edge. Lines should start and stop inside your
diagonals.

STEP FOUR
Create the right and left corners by drawing lines parallel to
your original edge. Lines should start and stop inside your
diagonals.

STEP FIVE
Criss-cross the top and bottom of the new corners

Shade the sides of your box.
