What is Sourcing?
It

is done before you closely read the


text of the document
You are looking to see:
Who wrote the document?
Why did they write it?
Where did they write it?
Is it reliable? Why? Why not?

Why do we source a
Document?
To

understand that not all sources


are accurate
To learn how to know if a source is
trustworthy or not
To learn what sources give better
evidence about a historical question
or event than others

Examples of Sourcing
Volumes have been written on the subject of the struggle between
England and America and the period of debate is closed.
