Language Arts 3 -Module 3 Narrative Overview

Big Picture: You will write a story inspired by the story Grounded found in lesson 3.02.
The Prompt: The author provides a description of the conditions inside the force field and how possible escape is discovered. As the passage
ends, Kate finds that Mr. Jacks has also escaped. Write an original narrative featuring Kate and Mr. Jacks and the city outside the airport
and force field as your setting. Be sure to use details from the text as you tell your story.

Requirements of your narrative:


(1) The events in your narrative must connect logically and reasonably to the events in the original story. (Ex. You
would not tell a story where Kate and Mr. Jacks cannot run a marathon for the first time.)
(2) You may invent new characters if needed(you have creative freedom) but again, be
sure that your story connects reasonably to the original story.
(3) You must include a fully developed plot (beginning, middle, ending).
(4) Your characters must speak to one another dialogue is required!
(5) You must also include: sensory details, temporal transitions, vivid verbs

What to Submit
3.01 Whose Truth? Quiz In this lesson, you will review narrative elements and complete a quiz.
3.02 Narrative Organization Chart In this lesson, you will map out and plan your narrative.

3.03 Get Verbal Quiz You will take a quiz over verbals (gerunds, participles, and infinitives).
3.04 Write your Introduction You will submit the introduction to your narrative of at least 100 words which
hook the reader (interesting quote, vivid description, or fascinating/outlandish idea), introduce the main
characters, and establish the setting.
3.05 Something to Say Quiz You will take a quiz over dialogue and punctuation (elements that should be
included in your narrative).
3.06 Body Portion You will submit the body paragraphs of your narrative including at least 300 words, 2
sensory descriptions, dialogue, 2 events in the rising action and a climax.
3.06 Pause for Commas Quiz You will take a quiz over how to correctly use commas.
3.07 Transitions/Revisions You will revise your narrative to include at least 5 temporal transitions and will mark
all transitions in the narrative with a (T).
3.08 Complete Rough Draft You will submit the completed narrative (intro, body and resolution). The
resolution should include at least 10o words and explain how the conflict was resolved and how the character
thinks or feels as a result of the resolution.
3.09 DBA Please schedule with your instructor.
3.10 Final Draft - Submit your polished final draft.
