Description:

The knight which would have been designed sometime around 1495 demonstrated how a machine
based on of the anatomical structure of a human being could be built. It is likely that the knight had been
designed to move with fluidity in combat. Leonardo Da Vinci had conducted a wide study into human
anatomy.
The Jacquard loom is a mechanical loom, invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard, first demonstrated in
1801, that simplifies the process of manufacturing textiles with such complex patterns as brocade,
damask and matelass. The loom was controlled by a "chain of cards", a number of punched cards,
laced together into a continuous sequence.
Items of Western Electric No 7-A machine switching system (rotary automatic telephone exchange)
made by Bell Telephone Manufacturing Company SA, Antwerp, 1920-1940. Including line finders, group
selectors, sequence switches, motor and drive assembly. Previously installed at Newland telephone
exchange, Hull, decommissioned 1 June 1975. In the early 1900s, six British towns and cities
established municipal telephone services.
