Visual Analysis of Chivas vs Cruzeiro at Sun Bowl Stadium

The image that will be analyzed was taken at the University of Texas at
El Pasos stadium, the Sun Bowl. This analysis will show the rhetorical
elements used in the photo. It will show how ethos, pathos, and logos are
used in within the photo, it will also analyze the intended audience and how
the authors strategies are used to spread his message.
Purpose of the Image and its Message
The purpose of this image was to exhibit a professional game from two
iconic soccer teams from the professional soccer world. It also suggests that
bringing professional teams to El Paso has a great benefit, atmosphere and
pass time to the El Paso community. The message that can be taken out of
this picture is that even though the stadium wasnt full enough, bringing
professional soccer teams to El Paso can be beneficial to the city and
community. El Paso is a borderland city to Mexico and when bringing in a
huge iconic team like Chivas, from the professional mexican league, to the
city it should have a big impact in the city.
Audience Targeted
Since this picture showed a soccer game from the sideline. The most
targeted and obvious audience are the soccer fans. It also targets people
interested in events to attend in El Paso, since it is a public event.
Ethos

The Credibility of this picture can prove that this is a high level soccer
game by showing two teams in the field. The closes player and the only one
that can be identify is the goalkeeper, Antonio Rodriguez. Antonio Rodriguez
is the starting goalkeeper of Chivas de Guadalajara. The field they are
playing in is the Sun Bowl Stadium, The University of Texas at El Pasos home
stadium. On the way back there is a huge amount of people, which are there
to watch the game.
Pathos
The photo exhibits joy and admiration. Most soccer fans tend to admire
teams like this and when watching them play the only thing they feel is joy
and excitement. Just like in the crowd many people are excited and in tune
with the game. Most fans in the stands may feel suspense as they see both
teams clash back and forth. The players in the picture look determined and
focused in the game. As many teams know it doesnt matter if is a friendly
game or a final all games are played with all intensity. If seen this photo from
another point of view, it would portrait disappointment. Since these are big
teams most people would be in shock and disappointed that the stadium
wasnt full enough. El Paso is a great place for this type of events to occur
since it is a borderland city it would have been expected that many people
from across the border and local citizens would have attended. It displays
concerns to people that are in charge of filling up the stadium for this events.
Since that can bring more profit and make a positive image to future events

like this. With these events the city can see if it is beneficial to bring teams
like this to the city. If there is not enough audience in the event it will make
the city infer to the idea that soccer is not big in El Paso.
Logos
The photographer took this picture where he could exhibit both the game
and the audience. He used that shot to show the environment the game had,
as Cruzeiro attacked Chivas. There can be two reasons he took the picture of
the whole stadium. One is to show that there was a good amount of people
that attended the game. To show that there was many people that attended
is a good way to say that the event was a success. However he also took part
of the stadium where there was empty seats. Which proves the other reason
he took the picture to show the entire stadium. A game with two amazing
teams like Chivas and Cruzeiro shouldve filled the whole stadium, yet it
didnt. Not having a full stadium means something went wrong with the
adverting and other affairs. He can easily make a statement that there is a
lack of support for the teams and the game.
Strategy
The image Taken can be used or viewed from two different sides. It can be
seen as a successful game of two professional soccer teams, or as an event
that was unsuccessful and couldnt fill up the whole stadium. The
photographer showed the use of ethos, pathos, and logos to show that it was
a legit game with two great teams and a good audience. It shows the players

to exhibit determination and admiration. The players were determined and

the audience showed admiration. His strategy was to get all, the game and
stands with people to show how successful the event was. The other way
around the photographer used ethos, pathos, and logos to show that a high
quality game with two good teams like Chivas and Cruzeiro are not
successful events to be held in El Paso. Showing that half the Sun bowl
stadium was not full infers that this type of games dont interest people of El
Paso. This city is a borderland city and it is a soccer city and with that, this
games should be able to sell out all seats of a stadium like the Sun Bowl.
