Ridge

Bobcat Ridge is a ridge located

east from Jackson Lake.
It has a cool temperature because
of the high elevation. It stands at
about 6,000 feet elevation.
There is no shade in the ridge so
the sun is striking the plain directly.

The first stop on this guide through the

Grand Teton National Park is at the
Snake River Overlook.

The Teton mountain range can be seen

from here. The Teton Mountain Range is
part of the Rocky Mountains.
The Tetons began to form 2.5 billion
years ago when sand and volcanic
debris settled into an ancient ocean.
Gneiss was metamorphosed over
millions of years by additional sediment,
heat, and pressure. With the help of
magma and earthquakes, the rock was
pushed upward and formed the Tetons.

Lake

This area is located in a ridge

southeast of Jenny Lake.
Timbered Island is a patch of
vegetation which is about 5
miles around. It mostly houses the
Pronghorn Antelope and Elk
because of the vegetation.
Sagebrush, a dominant type of
vegetation in Wyoming, mostly
grows in this region of the park. It
grows depending on elevation,
snow accumulation, aridity, and
other factors, which is mostly found
in this climate of the northern state.

Jackson Lake is located east of the

Teton Range. It is 15 miles long
and 7 miles wide.
It is a natural lake that is remnant
of glacial gouging from the Teton
Range in the west and the
Yellowstone Plateau in the north. It
also receives water from the Snake
River.
It was enlarged in the early 1900s
by the construction of the Jackson
Lake Dam.
