Economy:

Thirty years of conflict certainly did not support Afghanistans economic system; rather,
it drove away nearly 2.5 million Afghans - nearly destroying the economy. Since this
time, the Afghan economy has significantly increased with 20 billion dollars in Gross
Domestic Product...which is five times higher than in 2002!
Despite the growth, Afghanistan remains one of the worlds poorest countries. 20 billion
dollars in Gross Domestic Product, although an increase from the past, is not nearly
enough. To put things into perspective:
o Americas Gross Domestic Product is 16.77 trillion dollars.
o Bill Gates is worth 76.1 billion dollars - one man is worth almost four times more
than an entire nation.
The corruption within Afghanistan hinders progress to a self-sustaining economy
Afghanistans rich, natural resources can accelerate economic growth.
Afghanistan's top ten exports according to the Massachusetts Institution of Technology
includes:
1. Raw Cotton
2. Tropical Fruit
3. Grapes
4. Spice Seeds
5. Coal Briquettes
6. Peat
7. Refine Petroleum
8. Wheat Flours
9. Raw Sugar
10. Cement
The top export destinations of Afghanistan included
1. Pakistan
2. India
3. Finland
4. Russia
5. United States of America
6. India
7. China
Part of the reason these countries accept Afghan exports is because the Afghan
government has launched 88 public-private partnerships, leveraging more than $130
million from private-sector partners in construction, food processing, consumer goods
manufacturing, etc.
Afghans people are not certainly skilled at a specific trade; they are mostly working to
grow their exportation.
