Establishment

Andersonville has
been around since
the 19th century!
Immigrant
Swedish farmers
started moving to
the area. (back
then it was
considered a
distant suburb of
Chicago)

History

The Swedes began to move out during the Great

Depression. The neighborhood was heading
towards a decline.
Since many Swedes left, some of the Swedishowned businesses gave way to stores and
restaurants owned by Koreans, Lebanese, and
Mexicans
Andersonville began a period of revival in the
1980s after people discovered how great its
location is.
It remains one of the most concentrated areas of
Swedish Heritage
