Position #: 693501 WORKING TITLE OF POSITION: Environmental Health Specialist SALARY: $43,697 - $69,064 DATE AVAILABLE: Immediately Purpose of Position To enforce State Laws and Rules in relation to on-site sewage disposal for residences, places of business, and places of public assembly, including industrial process waste water. Locate proposed individual water supplies when needed in order to assure proper separation from ground absorption systems and compliance with State Rules where applicable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be thoroughly knowledgeable in a wide variety of rules and regulations relating to the installation of sanitary sewage disposal systems, sanitary wells, experimental and innovative technologies, and how they all relate to soils. Must be able to communicate these laws and rules to the public in such a way as to reflect their importance to the public's health. Must be able to deal effectively with people, both the public and fellow staff members, to reduce stressful encounters sometimes occurring as a result of enforcement of these Laws and Rules. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a four-year college or university with 30 semester of course work in the physical or biological sciences and two years of exposure in environmental health; or a four-year or Masters degree in environmental health from a program which is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Environmental Health Curricula of the National Environmental Health Association and one year of experience in environmental health. License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Environmental Health Specialist, authorized by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services; Registered Environmental Health Specialist with the N.C. State Board of Environmental Health Specialist Examiners; valid North Carolina driver's license. Authorized in OnSite Wastewater, Private Drinking Water Wells, Tattoo Parlors and Swimming Pools by the N. C. Department of Health and Human Services. Class C or higher - North Carolina Driver's License Must have a valid North Carolina Driver License and a good driving record. Must have proof of Rubella Immunity.
