HIRING SALARY RANGE: $44,624-$53,547

(Pay Grade 22)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
At Beaufort County Health Department, professional environmental health work in the promotion of public health
through education, surveillance, consultation, inspection and enforcement of state, local and federal environmental
health laws and regulations. Performs institutional and food and lodging inspections. Works cooperatively with
health department staff, state and county officials, restaurant and facility operators, and the general public.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from a four year college with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours of physical and/or biological
sciences and two years experience in environmental health; or a four year or masters degree in environmental
health from an accredited program and one year of experience in environmental health. Must qualify as a
Registered Environmental Health Specialist by the N.C. State Board of Environmental Health Specialist Examiners.
Must possess a valid North Carolina drivers license.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR A TRAINEE APPOINTMENT:

Four year degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours of coursework in the physical and biological sciences. Eligible
to be registered as an Environmental Health Specialist Intern by the North Carolina State Board of Environmental
Health Specialist Examiners. Environmental Health Specialist Intern until registration as an Environmental Health
Specialist.

HOURS OF WORK:
8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Employee is considered to be on call in the event of an emergency or
disaster.
