Please respond to the following prompts:

1 Summarize the key points you learned from this Professional
Development experience.
I was a judge for the RESA 3 Social Studies Fair. I judged four anthropology
6th-8th grade middle school Social Studies fair projects that covered the
following topics: no kill animal shelters, ancient cultures, Indian culture, and
the Egyptian pyramids.

2 Discuss how these key points connect to your content area.

This Professional Development experience directly relates to Social Studies. I
walked around and looked at all of the fairs projects and it was interesting to
see the topics that each of the students chose for their project. It was
somewhat difficult trying to determine who would get first and second place.
I wanted to be fair (and feel that I was) when trying to determine the order
that the student would place. Overall, I enjoyed being a judge and would
definitely be a judge again in the future.

3 Share how you might use this new information in your future
classroom.
I would like to incorporate the Social Studies fair into my classroom. I
believe that it teaches positive research and speaking skills that can

benefit students in the years to come. As a future teacher, I want to

ensure that students can gain the aforementioned skills while researching
and presenting on a topic of interest to them.
