Year 8 girls' basketball was one of my favourite classes to attend each week. The class drew me to the students who were less experienced and were more there for an alternate view on sport encouraging involvement and fun. Many of these girls will come on a weekly basis and offer many different reasons as to why they didn't want to participate in the class due to "injury" or "sickness" on all occasions that I offered this, students who begin the class sitting out would be involved by the end of the session

Reflection Piece: During my 6 week placement, I was involved in the Sport Education program with the year 8 girls basketball. I was team teaching this group of 35 girls with a fellow pre-service teacher, who was very competitive in nature and spent majority of the class time with the more experienced students. This naturally drew me to the students who were less experienced and were more there for an alternate view on sport encouraging involvement and fun. Many of these girls will come on a weekly basis and offer many different reasons as to why they didnt want to participate in the class due to injury or sickness which I always offer them the opportunity to participate whenever they are ready to join in. On all occasions that I offered this, students who begin the class sitting out would be involved by the end of the session. I found this to be beneficial as I wasnt forcing students to participate which gave them the independence to make their own decision and join in when they were going to bring a positive attitude and willingness to participate in the activity. Many of these girls were not very competitive in nature but always became involved with the experienced girls during a full game activity. The more experienced girls were showing more enjoyment by allowing the less experienced girls to become active participants within the game providing them with many opportunities to shoot for goals and call the game plays. This became one of my favourite classes to attend each week as the positive energy was infectious and it was a privilege to be involved with this group of girls.
