Definite Articles: THE


Definite articles (THE) are used with nouns to
indicate SPECIFIC persons, places, or things.
Example: El chico (The boy) means we are
talking about a specific boy.

Indefinite Articles: A, SOME


INDEFINITE articles are used with nouns to
indicate NONSPECIFIC persons, places or
things.
Ex. Una chica (a girl). we are not talking about
a specific person.

Practice/Examples
Example: El Chico es un amigo. El (definite article) un (indefinite
article).
Practice:
El hombre es un estudiante que le gusta comer las papas fritas.
(the man is a student that likes to eat the french fries).
La chica es una estudiante muy buena.
find the definite article(s) in the sentences above.

Gender and number


In spanish, articles match nouns in gender and
number.
Gender: ALL Spanish nouns are either
MASCULINE or FEMININE.
example: nouns ending in O = MASCULINE
nouns ending in A = FEMININE

El jugo es para la chica.

Plural
to form the plural of a noun
if the noun ends in a vowel, add -s
example: Hombre : Hombres
If the noun ends in a consonant, add -es
example: Mujer : Mujeres
