St. Augustine, Florida

San Augustine, Florida


The City of St. Augustine is the nation's oldest settlement, having been founded by the
Pedro Menendez de Aviles of Spain, in 1565 (42 years before the Jamestown
Settlement).
It is the same location in which Ponce de Len believed the fountain of youth to be.

Castillo De San Marcos


Began Construction in 1672 and was very helpful in keeping Florida under Spanish
rule.
built from a rock called coquina which was a main factor for its strength and
defense against enemies.
Able to hold all residents of St. Augustine.
shape of fort gave the ability of NO blind spots.

St. Augustine Today


Today, many of the aspects are still here. you can visit many of the sites such as the
fountain of youth and the castillo de San Marcos.

Miami
Miami has a very rich hispanic culture thats not nearly as old as St. Augustine.

Little Havana/Calle Ocho


Little Havana is the most well known hispanic culture of Miami.

Heavy population of cuban residents


because Miami is so close to Cuba.
