Graduate Research Assistant at Michigan State University

Develop oral vaccine delivery system to inoculate

white-tailed deer against bovine tuberculosis
Determine suitable vaccine delivery unit (VDU) to use
as a device to orally administer vaccine
Evaluate a plausible biomarker to assess uptake of VDUs
by white-tailed deer in NE lower Michigan
Assess abundance and peak activity of deer on agriculture
fields during winter break up
Measure the effect of changing vegetation characteristics
(i.e. herbaceous growth) on deer activity and presence on
agriculture fields

Undergraduate Deer Research Internship

September 2013-May 2014
Southern Illinois University Carbondale
Assisted in research to identify contact rates among
deer and the foreseen effect on disease transmission
Executed the capture, tagging and radio collaring of
white-tailed deer with the use of rocket and drop nets
Implemented DNA extraction and PCR amplification of biopsy samples
Performed field observations and radio telemetry to locate deer populations
Data entry of tagged deer contact occurrences with the use
of camera trap photographs
Research Internship, Co-Occurrence of Furbearers
June 2013-August 2013
Southern Illinois University Carbondale
Conducted stream surveys to asses possible use of habitat by
otters, muskrat, and beaver
Collected scat samples from the field to identify prominent
food source
Identified tracks of individual Furbearing species
Employed several GPS, range finding, and measurement
techniques to asses quality of the environment
