The origin and functions


of ethics committees
Ethics committees originated in the United States and in 1975
became a worldwide phenomenon, because from that time on the
publishers had to make sure that the publication had passed an
ethics committee. There are a few international statements and some
statutory law, but since medical people in research compete with
each other, usually some kind of commonly agreed law prevails.
