Essay: Do you agree with Aaron Burr that its wisest to put things off if you can?
Never do today what you can do tomorrow. Something may occur to make you
regret your premature action. Aaron Burr
Aaron Burr poses an interesting dilemma with his statement: Never do today what
you can do tomorrow. This thought pattern gives off an impression which leads
people to believe and give into a sense of apathy and leisure. But the following
addition gives a bit of logic to the preceding sentence with: Something may occur
to make you regret your premature action. Giving the idea a sense of depth and
multi-faceted justification to what had originally appeared to be laziness. But is this
the wisest choice to take?
What Aaron Burr meant was not to be taken quite literally as tomorrow, but rather in
the future. He meant that when going about doing something, one must be sure
that nothing in the future can affect the choice you make and make you regret that
choice later. A lot of things that have not happened yet could happen and render
the choices you make today either obsolete or even detrimental. What Aaron Burr
wants people to think is that to make a choice, one must be sure of the risks that
could come in the future. After one can analyze the risks of the future, deciding to
take the chance of choice becomes easier and easier as the possibility of harm
lessens. This is a wise choice to take when dealing with a situation that has the
double edge of risk in the near future. It ensures the decision-maker that the risk of
making any kind of wrong choice will be smaller and will at least have less of an
impact on the decision itself.
What Aaron Burr said about choice and its inherent risks is not only a wise tactic but
also a practical strategy to making the decision.
