each citizen ages 18-69
that are literate must vote.

Brazils constitution that they follow now took effect in


1988. Before this the military had controlled the
government. While the military was in charge from
1964-1985 they suspended the constitutional
guarantee of civilians rights. Civilian government was
later restored in 1985.
