While the students are working on cooperatively sorting foam shapes, I will walk
around and actively monitor student's progress, noting where assistance is
needed.
Additionally, the students will do a cut and paste activity to put in their science
journal, which will be used to assess mastery.

and actively monitor the students and provide assistance
where needed.
Activity 2: The teacher will have the students get out their
science journals and turn to a fresh page and write the date on
it. Then the teacher will model how to divide the page into four
quadrants and label them. Then the teacher will pass out a
sheet with four different shapes on them and instruct the
students to cut out the shapes and paste them in the
corresponding quadrants. Again, the teacher will walk around
the classroom and actively monitor the students and provide
assistance where needed.
This lesson opens with a read aloud because the students tend to be really
engaged and seem to enjoy read alouds. Additionally, the students are given
additional support by using manipulatives to be able to not only see the shapes,
but feel them as well.
